Automatic Retriever for Disturbances (ARD)

ENEVO Group has developed the ARD System as a response to the needs of power plant administrators and substation O&M operators. The System has 2 components, the Local Collector and the Central Server.

The application is designed to automatically gather comtrade files and Event Loggers from protection relays installed in transmission and distribution substations. In this way every operator will benefit of easy access to important fault analysis data directly from a centralized webpage without the need of other software installed.

Local Collector ARD-LC

The ARD-LC is the device mounted in each substation where disturbance data must be collected. The ARD-LC will continuously monitor the disturbance recorded in each protection relay compatible with the application. In case of a network event, the COMTRADE files will be firstly stored locally and sent to the central server almost instantaneously.

ARD-LC can also be used as:

  • PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit) integrated in a synchrophasor system by adding current and voltage input cards and using C37.118 protocol.
  • Mini RTU or protocol converter by adding RS485 or RS 232 inputs for local serial devices; can convert any of the following protocols: IEC 61850, IEC 101, IEC 104, DNP, modbus.
  • Power quality metering device, using current and voltage inputs.


  • Robust controller mounted in each substation for locally retrieving the disturbance records
  • Rugged, embedded control and monitoring system with -20 to 55 °C operating temperature range
  • Real-time operating system
  • The COMTRADE files are collected via IEC 61850 relays or proprietary vendor protocol
  • Capable of storing the events files for more than 6 months

Central Server ARD-CS

The ARD-CS is the server system where all the files are collected from all locations. From this point, using a powerful and secured webpage the users can access the recordings throughout the intranet. Basic waveform visualization and analysis can be achieved in the webpage. The web page can be developed in a technical CMS for the operator, including information like protection relay details, settings of the relays or drawing database. Having a realtime OS, ARD can be easily deployed as PDC (Phase Data Concentrator), for Synchrophasor applications.
